Hello and welcome to hubpages :D Hubpages is a community. Thats it and thats what you must learn to grasp because this is the only way you will succeed on hubpages. Being part of this community means that you have a certain role to play, in fact everybody must play the same role to gain any success or any kind of money. If you as an individual hubber are creating low quality content and say 5000 other hubbers are aswell then majority will take effect on majority and our information to the search engines will not be trusted and will be considered as poor content. Time must be put into Writing hubs and the information must be helpful or rich in some kind of way. Your author hub score can be increased by writing more high quality hubs, by answering questions in the community or even easier by rating a hub up or down (hint hint :D). Following other hubs and showing an interest also adds towards a good author score.

The best way of making money from hubpages is by creating a google adsense account and modifying it here to be able to show your ads, hubpages is highly thought of by the search engines and will generate you many visitors when you have written some good content.

Barry, there is a community on HubPages but being part of it isn't the key to making money. In fact it's pretty much irrelevant. It's just nice because it makes a lonely endeavour (working on a PC alone) a bit more sociable,that's all.
To be successful, you need to learn the keys to attracting search engine traffic.
Marisa, Your right it does make working on a pc alone better, I enjoy talking to people like you, Although you must realize that it is vital to achieve good scores on your articles and to try and obtain a good author score, if you can do this then search engines will pick you up, the search engines take the best of the bunch, think of it that way.
